Made entirely from Sangiovese, the 2019 Soldera Case Basse emphasises aromatic clarity and living energy rather than simple weight. Red cherry and other ripe red fruits lead, joined by flowers, dried herbs, earth, and fine spice. The palate is precise and flowing, with fresh acidity and finely drawn tannins giving the fruit definition from entry through the long finish. Air reveals increasingly savoury layers: tea, forest floor, Mediterranean herbs, and subtle mineral detail appear beneath the cherries and florals. The wine's power is expressed through persistence and complexity, not heaviness. Its youthful structure benefits from an extended decant, but the balance between fruit, acidity, and tannin marks it as a serious candidate for long cellar development. Each return to the glass brings a slightly different emphasis, from bright red fruit to dried flowers, herbs, earth, and a refined, lingering savoury finish. Those changing aromas reward slow, attentive, exceptionally patient service.
Serve around 16–18°C in a generous Burgundy or Sangiovese glass and decant slowly for several hours. Roast pigeon, duck, lamb, wild boar ragù, bistecca, or simply prepared veal will complement its red fruit and savoury structure. Porcini, truffle, celeriac, lentils, tomato, rosemary, sage, and grilled radicchio can draw out its earthy and herbal dimensions. Avoid sweet glazes, fierce chilli, and excessive smoke. Pecorino Toscano, Parmigiano Reggiano, or an aged alpine cheese makes a natural final course. Let the wine evolve through the meal; its red cherry, flowers, tea, herbs, and earth become progressively more articulate and interconnected with patient air.
Soldera Case Basse is devoted to a singular expression of Sangiovese from its estate near Montalcino. The 2019 season began with a cool, rainy spring and moved into a balanced summer, allowing fruit to reach full ripeness without sacrificing freshness. Selection was rigorous, both in the vineyard and at the cellar. Only 18,049 standard bottles and 1,522 magnums were produced, giving this living, cellar-worthy Sangiovese an appropriately rare scale. The estate's approach is grounded in healthy soils, meticulous farming, spontaneous transformation, and long observation. In 2019, those principles yielded a wine whose purity, aromatic vitality, and fine structure communicate Sangiovese with unusual immediacy and longevity.
Store unopened on its side in a cool, dark, temperature-stable cellar. Protect from heat, light, vibration, and sudden temperature changes. Serve around 16–18°C and decant patiently. Contains sulphites.
