A naturally caffeine-free South African rooibos brightened with lemon, clementine, orange, and kola. Presented in 24 individually enveloped Cristal® sachets, it offers a smooth yet lively infusion suited to any hour of the day.

Tasting Notes of the Curator

Dammann Frères Rooibos Citrus brings together the naturally mellow character of rooibos and the vivid brightness of citrus fruit. The infusion opens with lemon, whose tart and zesty edge immediately lifts the cup. Clementine follows with a softer, juicier sweetness, while orange adds warmth and a rounded citrus depth.

The rooibos base gives the blend its gentle structure. Naturally smooth and low in astringency, it carries subtle notes of honey, dry wood, and warm herbs beneath the fruit. This softness prevents the citrus from becoming sharp, creating a cup that feels refreshing but never aggressive.

Kola adds a distinctive aromatic accent, lending a faintly spiced, lightly bittersweet character that gives the blend more dimension. It sits quietly behind the citrus rather than dominating it, helping the infusion feel lively and complete.

The overall impression is bright, fruity, and sunny, with a naturally sweet finish and no tannic bite. It is particularly approachable for those who enjoy flavoured teas but prefer to avoid caffeine. Served hot, the orange and rooibos notes feel warm and comforting. Chilled, the lemon and clementine become crisp and thirst-quenching.

Each Cristal® sachet is individually enveloped to protect the blend’s aroma and make it easy to enjoy at home, at work, while travelling, or as a gentle evening drink.

Brewing and Pairing Suggestions

Steep one sachet in water heated to approximately 90°C for 4–5 minutes. Rooibos does not become sharply bitter as quickly as traditional tea, so it can be steeped a little longer for a fuller cup. Remove the sachet before serving.

Rooibos Citrus pairs beautifully with both sweet and lightly savoury foods:

Citrus desserts: Serve with lemon tart, orange cake, citrus madeleines, or marmalade pastries.

Vanilla and cream: Pair with panna cotta, vanilla custard, cheesecake, or creamy rice pudding.

Chocolate: Its orange notes complement dark chocolate, chocolate biscuits, and chocolate-orange desserts.

Breakfast pastries: Enjoy with croissants, brioche, toast, or buttered scones.

Fresh fruit: Pair with oranges, pineapple, mango, peaches, or a mixed fruit salad.

Light savoury dishes: Serve with mild cheeses, roast chicken, or delicately spiced couscous.

For iced rooibos, brew the sachet slightly stronger, allow it to cool completely, and serve over ice with slices of orange, lemon, or fresh mint. Its naturally smooth character also makes it pleasant with a small spoonful of honey.

From the Cederberg to a Citrus Grove

Rooibos comes from the plant Aspalathus linearis, which grows naturally in South Africa’s Cederberg region. Although it is often called red tea, it is not made from the Camellia sinensis plant used for black, green, or white tea. It is instead a herbal infusion with its own distinct identity.

Once harvested and processed, the slender leaves develop their characteristic reddish colour and naturally mild, honeyed flavour. Because rooibos contains no caffeine, it has become a popular choice for evening drinking and for those who want a flavourful cup without the stimulation of traditional tea.

In Rooibos Citrus, Dammann Frères pairs this earthy South African infusion with the brightness of lemon, clementine, and orange. The result feels like two landscapes meeting in one cup: the warm, dry character of rooibos and the vivid perfume of a sunlit citrus grove.

It is a blend made for easy pleasure rather than solemn ceremony—bright enough for mornings, gentle enough for bedtime, and cheerful enough to bring a little sunshine to an otherwise ordinary tea break.

Storage Instructions

Keep each tea bag sealed inside its individual envelope until ready to brew. Store the box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, humidity, and strongly scented foods or spices. Handle the sachets only with clean, dry hands.
