About

caviar: prices, types & tin sizes

Which caviar should you buy?

Start with the flavour you enjoy, the number of people sharing and your budget. Compare the named sturgeon type and the producer's notes, then choose a tin size. The most expensive caviar is not automatically the best match for your taste.

The examples below show different choices in our catalog. Tin formats and availability vary; open the product page to check the current options and price.

Caviar Flavour Tins Choose for
Astara Oscietra Nutty, creamy, briny 30g / 50g A focused tasting
Astara Platine Buttery 30g / 50g A hybrid to compare
Astara Baeri Briny, savoury 30g / 50g A different type

Platine is a Schrenckii–Dauricus hybrid; Baeri comes from Siberian sturgeon. Check each product's current availability before choosing.

How much is caviar in the Philippines?

Compare the current Philippine peso prices on the products above. Price depends on the producer, sturgeon type, grading, preparation and tin size. Compare equal weights when assessing value: a larger tin may cost more overall without costing more per gram. Product prices are a more useful guide than a fixed range that may become outdated.

For a first purchase, choose a tin you can enjoy in one sitting. For a gift, consider the recipient's preferences and the storage instructions as well as presentation.

How much caviar should you serve per person?

As a tasting suggestion, allow roughly 15–30g per person when caviar is the focus. Smaller portions can work as a garnish or with several other dishes. A 30g tin therefore suits a modest tasting for two; choose more if you want generous servings. This is a planning guide, not a fixed serving rule.

How do you serve and store caviar?

Keep the tin chilled and follow its label for the storage temperature, use-by date and instructions after opening. Storage requirements vary by product. Serve a small amount at a time, keeping the remaining caviar cold. A tin set over ice is a practical presentation; avoid letting water enter it.

A mother-of-pearl spoon is a traditional choice. Use a clean, non-reactive utensil and handle the pearls gently. Do not assume that every metal utensil is unsuitable: the material and finish matter.

What food goes with caviar?

Taste a little on its own first, then keep the accompaniments simple. Olsen Mini Blinis, a little cream from our cream selection, or plain toast give the roe room to stand out. Check the chosen cream's texture and intended use.

For a seafood table, consider oysters. Caviar can also finish eggs, potatoes or pasta: add it at serving rather than cooking it into the dish.

What drinks go with caviar?

Dry Champagne and sparkling wine offer a fresh contrast to the roe's richness. A clean, chilled vodka is another traditional choice. If you prefer still wine, explore the tasting notes in our white wine selection for a fresh style that will not overwhelm the caviar.

What is caviar, and how is it different from other roe?

Caviar is salt-cured sturgeon roe. Roe is the broader term for fish eggs; salmon and other fish roe have their own flavours and uses. Browse our separate roe selection if that is what you are looking for. Names used locally for fish roe do not identify a specific sturgeon caviar.

Where does caviar come from?

The Caspian and Black Sea regions are closely associated with caviar's history. Modern caviar is also produced through sturgeon farming in several countries. The species, farm location and brand are separate pieces of information: a French brand does not by itself establish where the sturgeon was raised. Consult the individual product's origin information.

What does caviar taste like?

Saltiness, nuttiness, creaminess and the texture of the pearls vary with species, producer and preparation. Use the individual tasting notes to compare tins rather than treating one species as a guarantee of a particular flavour. A small tasting of two types is a useful way to discover your preference.

What are Beluga, Ossetra, Baeri and other caviar types?

Beluga comes from Huso huso. Ossetra, also written Oscietra or Osciètre, commonly identifies caviar from Russian sturgeon. Baeri or Baerii identifies Siberian sturgeon. White sturgeon caviar is associated with Acipenser transmontanus, while Sevruga comes from starry sturgeon.

Hybrid caviars should be identified by their actual parent species. Trade names such as Platine or Kristal belong to particular selections and should not be treated as interchangeable species names. Check the product's species information when comparing them.

Why is caviar expensive?

Raising sturgeon to roe-producing maturity takes time, and harvesting, sorting, salting and handling require care. Production time varies by species and farm. Pearl size, texture, selection and demand can also influence price. Producer grades are not a universal ranking system, so compare the actual product descriptions.

Rare selections such as Beluga and pale caviar sold under the Almas name appear in accounts of exceptionally expensive caviar. A world-record price is not a useful benchmark for choosing a tin for dinner.

Is all caviar organic?

No. Sturgeon roe is not automatically organic, additive-free or covered by a particular certification. Check the specific product's ingredients and any verified certification. For nutrition and allergens, use its label rather than assuming every tin has the same composition.
