The Excellens Rioja Rosé is about 60 percent Garnacha tinta and 40 percent Tempranillo, taken straight to the bottle after harvest between December and January. This young wine is a very lovely shade of pale pink, wafting refined notes of rose petals and peach. It is well-balanced and silky smooth on the mouth, with notes of ripe pear and peaches. This is a succulent wine with both delicate character and a rather nice finish, plus a vivacity to it that highlights its freshness.
Rosés from the Rioja region tend to be on the medium-bodied dry side, making them capable of standing up to strong flavors like anchovy, olives, garlic, saffron, and pimenton. They’re great with tapenades, paellas, grilled chicken or fish, and tender, herb-encrusted lamb. If you’re going for lighter fare, this wine also goes well with rustic pâtés, terrines, and other charcuterie. We recommend it with our Jean Brunet Pork Pâté with Red Peppers & Olives.
The best technology, a strict technical team, and a well-appointed winery are all important for making fine wine. Marqués de Cáceres benefits from a high-quality supply of grapes from the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa sub-regions, which surround the winery itself in Cenicero. Most of the Tempranillo and Viura vines from which the grapes grow are over 30 years old, harvested following a strict calendar of tastings and ripening tests to determine optimal quality.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 5 to 7 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
