A dry, light to medium bodied white wine, the Josmeyer Pinot Blanc gives notes of apple, pear, and peach on the palate, with subtle nuances of honey and citrus. It gives off soft and flowery aromas, and is delicate at first taste. It’s a perfect, refreshing summer wine that is easy to drink. In Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, it’s been said to be an “open-hearted, lovely, fruity wine that is great fun to drink […].”
This Alsace gem is a perfect aperitif; serve slightly chilled to welcome in the start of summer. Pair it with some mild and soft cheese, like this Brie de Meaux, this Époisses from Côte d’Or, or this Halloumi from Cyprus.
The Josmeyer Pinot Blanc also works wonderfully with rich fish dishes, like a grilled salmon dish with asparagus. Or even an oil-based pasta, like a shrimp scampi, or a scoglio.
In 1854, restaurant owner, gourmet, and “courtier en vins (wine broker),” Aloyse Meyer decided to put more focus on wine, and thus, this Alsace brand was born.
His grandson, Hubert, became an excellent winemaker, and launched the export market, also supplying the Navy. He was also responsible for adding “JOS” to the brand name, in honor of Joseph, his father, whom he succeeded.
His son, Jean, on the other hand, brought about modernity and elevated Josmeyer to elite status in Alsace. His daughters, Isabelle and Celine, now helm the renowned brand.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
