An easy to love bold Span­ish red that boasts of deli­cious black fruit. Young and expres­sive, from the Rib­era del Duero region. Pro­tos Rib­era Duero Roble won Gold at the Con­cours Mon­di­al de Brux­elles, a com­pe­ti­tion whose pri­ma­ry ambi­tion is to pro­vide con­sumers with a guar­an­tee of sin­gling out wines of irre­proach­able quality.

Tast­ing Notes from The Curator

Made of 100% Tin­ta de Pais or Tem­pranil­lo, pop­u­lar in the Span­ish region. It is aged for 6 months in french and amer­i­can bar­rels & 6 months in bot­tle. It main­tains a bright red cher­ry col­or with a pur­ple rim. On the nose it is frank and intense, where aro­mas of red and black fruit stand out, accom­pa­nied by spicy and light toast­ed notes. It’s taste has a good struc­ture, fruity, fresh, with a sweet, bal­anced oak and with very pleas­ant soft tannins.

Pair­ings

This wine can eas­i­ly go well with a vari­ety of dish­es but its is espe­cial­ly a match made in heav­en for toma­to-based dish­es, such as pas­ta pomodoro, put­tanesca, stuffed egg­plant, meat stews. This dry red also goes best with chis­tor­ra, sala­mi and semi-aged cheeses. Ide­al­ly served at 15 – 16º

The Bode­gas Pro­tos Heritage

Bode­gas Pro­tos was found­ed in March 1927 by 11 wine grow­ers from Peñafiel under the name Bode­ga Rib­era Duero. Their aim and mot­to was to pro­duce pre­mi­um qual­i­ty wines from the out­stand­ing Tin­to Fino Grapes cul­ti­vat­ed in this land. 55 years lat­er Pro­tos autho­rizes the Rib­era Duero trade­mark to be used to name Rib­era del Duero Appel­la­tion of Origin.

Until today, Pro­tos is con­ti­nous­ly expand­ing. The qual­i­ty and pres­tige the Win­ery acquired in the eight­ies led a high­ly rec­og­nized vine-grow­ing area to take on its own name, Rib­era del Duero, to iden­ti­fy the D.O. Con­trol Board that watch­es over the qual­i­ty of area wines. In 1995, the wine-aging cel­lar was enlarged and the Win­ery suc­ceed­ed in the inter­na­tion­al wine­mak­ing panorama.

The project con­tin­ues grow­ing: In the town of Anguix (Bur­gos), Pro­tos has acquired a win­ery that has the lat­est cut­ting-edge tech­nol­o­gy. It can pro­duce up to three mil­lion kilos of grapes, of which 1.5 mil­lion kilos go through the sort­ing table.

Among the acco­lades this win­ery has won: Wine And Spir­its Win­ery of the Year and Mar­ca de Exce­len­cia by the Inter­na­tion­al Super­brands Council. 

Storage Instructions

Store unopened red wines in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from con­stant vibra­tion. Keep your bot­tle hor­i­zon­tal in a wine rack or cel­lar to retain the moist­ness of the cork. The ide­al tem­per­a­ture for stor­age is between 16 to 18°C. Once opened, a bot­tle will be good for 3 to 5 days stand­ing upright in the refrigerator.
