TASTING NOTES FROM THE CURATOR

This limited-edition Oro del Desierto Olive Oil is fresh and unfiltered, using Arbequina and Picual olives harvested early, and cold extracted in two phases. It’s called “1/10” for two reasons: the first being that these oils are the first (1) to be obtained in October (the 10th month), when the olives are still green. The second reason is that to obtain 1L of this quality olive oil, about 10kg of freshly harvested olives are needed.

The Oro del Deserito Limited Edition 1/10 Olive Oil is dark green in color, with intense aromas of fresh grass, apple, tomato, and almonds. Strong on the palate, it has bitter and spicy notes that mellows as the oil ages.

PREPARATION AND PAIRINGS

Because it’s a limited edition and freshly extracted oil, we recommend using the Oro del Desierto 1/10 Olive Oil cold for dressing, or dipping with bread to get the most out of it. Drizzle it over salads and cold soups, or over pasta and vegetables. The color and flavor are best during the first six to eight months, but it is definitely still incredible 18 to 24 months after that. We only recommend using it quickly to appreciate its amazing taste.

The Alonso family established Oro del Desierto in 2000 as a family enterprise. Since 2003, it has garnered various national and international honors and recognitions for its quality and manufacturing method. Extra virgin olive oil from Oro del Desierto has been exported to over 20 countries and is still growing.

Oro del Desierto extra virgin olive oil is produced in Tabernas, in the province of Almeria. The qualities of the land in this area are ideal for producing extra virgin olive oil, as they receive roughly 3,000 hours of sunlight each year and have consistent temperatures for the majority of the year. Its organically farmed olives provide one of the top organic extra virgin olive oils in the world.

Storage Instructions

Olive oil should be stored in a cool, dry, dark cupboard, away from the heat and light. Choose a spot in the kitchen that’s away from the oven. The best temperature for storing oil is from 13 to 21°C.
