From the beautiful Melgaço region of northern Portugal, where hot days alternate with cold nights, Soalheiro’s Alvarinho has a beautiful citrus color with fresh, fruity aromas and a moderate acidity. On the dry side, this wine is intensely tropical, with mineral notes beneath it. The grapes are manually harvested in small batches, all to concentrate the quality of the grapes and allow good evolution in the bottle.
This Alvarinho makes a wonderful aperitif and is absolutely amazing with the fruits of the sea. From ceviche to fresh oysters, mussels, and clams, and even seafood risotto, its acidity and brightness goes well with their flavors. It goes well, in particular, with white fish, so you’ll certainly want to try a glass with a lovely fish taco.
Soalheiro gets its Alvarinho grapes from several small vineyards in the Melgaço region. The brand name itself means “a sunny place”, arising from the excellent exposure of the vineyards in that area. They are a pioneer in not just the use, but the creation of the Alvarinho wine, becoming an international benchmark for wines from this grape variety. They have been in business since 1974.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
