A certified organic red wine, the Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Village is made with quality Pinot Noir grapes, and has expressive notes of red cherry and herb.

TASTING NOTES FROM THE CURATOR

This Burgundy red wine from Sylvain Pataille is made with Pinot Noir grapes from multiple terroirs in Marsannay, aged in older oak barrels for 18 months. A lovely and expressive wine, it has an ABV of about 13.5%. On the nose, you get red cherry and herbs. You get much of the same notes on the palate, bright and juicy, with the addition of plum.

PREPARATION AND PAIRINGS

The Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Village Pinot Noir is great with heavy pastas, like Bolognese or a Lasagna. It’s also great with steak or lamb, or even a nicely roasted chicken or duck.

TO FOLLOW A DREAM

Sylvain Pataille has a relationship with wine that spans his whole life. His was not a family of vignerons, but his childhood was spent amongst the vines. His father, a bus driver, spent some afternoons helping his vigneron friend, bringing along Sylvain and his brother, Laurent. And every summer, they would visit their paternal great uncle’s domain in the Médoc. Sylvain grew up around wine and vines, and he knew that winemaking would be his career.

He attended school in Beaune for winemaking, studying, training, and learning all he could to fully prepare himself for his dream. Barely out of school. He started his own domaine in Marsannay, a village in the Côte de Nuits. He began in 1999 with only one hectare to his name, and steadily grew it to its current 15 hectares.

Aside from being a renowned vigneron, he is also consulting oenologist to some of the most illustrious domaines in the region. He has also become a leader in biodynamic and organic viticulture. All of his expertise has rendered him one of the most important figures in Burgundy.
