Made exclusively with Lechin de Granada olives, this Oro del Desierto olive oil is well-balanced, with fruity notes, and a soft bitter finish.

TASTING NOTES FROM THE CURATOR

The Oro del Desierto Lichen de Granada is made exclusively with Lechin de Granada olives, which is native to Almeria, and the rest of Spain’s southwest. These olives grow between 80 to 250 years, and are difficult to find outside the region. Oro del Desierto uses early harvest Lechin olives, and does two phases of cold extraction.

The result is a clean and filtered olive oil, with an intense gold hue. It has distinct aromas of green olives and dried fruit, with hints of apricot. It’s well-balanced on the palate, soft and fruity, with notes of ripe fruit and green olives. It finishes with a soft bitterness, and has a pleasant aftertaste, reminiscent of fresh vegetables.

PREPARATION AND PAIRINGS

Extra virgin olive oil is a versatile ingredient that can be used to improve almost any recipe. You can sprinkle it over your salad or use it as a salad dressing element. It will add a burst of flavor to your pasta or vegetables if drizzled over them. Pouring a little extra virgin olive oil over a tiny dish, and a few dashes of balsamic vinegar is a classic appetizer concept. A straightforward yet delicious bread dip. Boiled potatoes, roasted garlic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and salt & pepper can be combined to make a delicious mashed potato.

THE SUNNY SIDE

The Alonso family established Oro del Desierto in 2000 as a family enterprise. Since 2003, it has garnered various national and international honors and recognitions for its quality and manufacturing method. Extra virgin olive oil from Oro del Desierto has been exported to over 20 countries and is still growing.

Oro del Desierto extra virgin olive oil is produced in Tabernas, in the province of Almeria. The qualities of the land in this area are ideal for producing extra virgin olive oil, as they receive roughly 3,000 hours of sunlight each year and have consistent temperatures for the majority of the year.
