Deliciously flavorful and addicting, these hazelnuts are fresh from France, and are aromatic and versatile.
TASTING NOTES FROM THE CURATOR
Called “noisettes” in France, these fresh hazelnuts take on the shape of flattish hearts. The shell’s color ranges from a warm brown, to a mahogany red. They’re smallish nuts, with a pretty firm ivory flesh, but the flavor is highly concentrated. Sweet and aromatic, with delicate woody notes, its taste will remind you vaguely of brown sugar.
PREPARATION AND PAIRINGS
These French hazelnuts are great to eat raw, or roasted plain. You can also opt to roast them with some sugar to candy them, or with some salt and herbs for a savory turn. You can also turn it into a paste, or a hazelnut butter. Or even make your own version of Nutella. You can crush them and use them for tart crust, or in cookies, cakes, and brownies. You can top your salads with them, too!
A GOOD NUT
Hazelnuts are delicious, and are actually healthy for you. They’re a quick and great source of energy and plant-based protein. These nuts are also filled with nutrients and healthy fats, and high content of antioxidants. A good source of fiber, it aids in digestion. It can also help decrease inflammation, and may help lower blood sugar levels.
If still in shells, store your hazelnuts in an airtight container in a cool and dry area, like the pantry or a cupboard. You may store unshelled hazelnuts in the refrigerator, too. Once shelled, make sure to keep them in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Consume within 3 months.
