The Cantalapiedra La Otea is made with 100% Verdejo grapes, hand-harvested from 150-year-old vines in Villanueva de Duero. These grapes are fermented in French oak barrels for 11 months, and in stainless steel tanks for another 11 months.
This wonderful white wine has an ABV of 13.5%, and is counted in the top one percent of wines in the world. It boasts a beautiful straw yellow color, and exudes fruity aromas of yellow fruit, with notes of dried herbs and chamomile flower. It’s savory on the palate, with a refreshing acidity and a slight bitter finish.
The Cantalapiedra La Otea is great to pair with salads, shellfish, fish, and rice dishes. It’s also brilliant with curry, and pork dishes.
Isaac and Manuel Cantalapiedra are a father-son duo that seeks to bring back the beauty and timelessness of Verdejo wine. The Verdejo is a noble grape, found in the complex soils of the rolling Rueda hills. It produces some of Spain’s most distinctive white wines.
The Cantalapiedras come from several generations of winegrowers in La Seca, a municipality considered to be the heart of the Rueda appellation. Their current estate, Cantalapiedra Viticultores, was founded in 1949, by the family patriarch, Heliodoro, who planted his first vineyard plot at 15 years old. Together with Isaac, his son, they built their now certified organic domaine, and sold their grapes to the large producers of the area. Isaac now handles Cantalapiedra Viticultores with his own son, Manuel, and together they established their own small cellar, with their first vintage being bottled in 2014.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
