Quevedo 10-Year-Old Tawny Port

Nutty Liquid Gold

This nut¬≠ty, aged tawny port is a tes¬≠ta¬≠ment to Quevedo‚Äôs choice grape vari¬≠eties and their selec¬≠tion of oak bar¬≠rels. Its com¬≠plex sweet notes make it almost a dessert all on its own.

Quevedo‚Äôs tawny ports are allowed to slow¬≠ly oxi¬≠dize in oak casks, allowed to take on that sig¬≠na¬≠ture gold¬≠en tone and nut¬≠ty fla¬≠vor¬≠ing. This ten-year ver¬≠sion is a pale sort of tawny, with an intense aro¬≠ma of dried fruits mixed with wal¬≠nut and tof¬≠fee. The nut¬≠ti¬≠ness is bal¬≠anced by sweet¬≠ness, rem¬≠i¬≠nis¬≠cent of demer¬≠ara sug¬≠ar, bit¬≠ter choco¬≠late, and spiced caramel all at once, with a hint of fig and cit¬≠rus in the fin¬≠ish. Bright and fresh with delight¬≠ful¬≠ly trea¬≠cly notes at the end, you‚Äôll hard¬≠ly notice the high alco¬≠hol hit!

Tawny ports go well with any¬≠thing on the nut¬≠ty dessert spec¬≠trum, from caramel cheese¬≠cakes and pecan pies to Ger¬≠man choco¬≠late cake, cr√®me br√Ľl√©e, and coconut cream pie. Even a scoop of vanil¬≠la or cof¬≠fee ice cream ben¬≠e¬≠fits from this port‚Äôs wal¬≠nut-tof¬≠fee infu¬≠sion. Desserts are not the only foods that go well with tawny port. Pour your¬≠self a glass to go with a love¬≠ly cheese board of Manchego, white ched¬≠dar, Stil¬≠ton, and any hard sheep cheese‚ÄČ‚ÄĒ‚ÄČfin¬≠ished off with dried cher¬≠ries and apri¬≠cots, of course!

The Queve¬≠dos are a fam¬≠i¬≠ly with a long his¬≠to¬≠ry of grow¬≠ing grapes and mak¬≠ing port wine, all the way back from 1889. Oscar and Beat¬≠riz Queve¬≠do built their win¬≠ery in the 1990s and turned the fam¬≠i¬≠ly pas¬≠sion into a fruit¬≠ful busi¬≠ness. They believe that wine is made in the vine¬≠yard. With¬≠out good grapes, the process¬≠es in a win¬≠ery do not mat¬≠ter. That is why they now cul¬≠ti¬≠vate 114 hectares of ter¬≠raced vine¬≠yards across six prop¬≠er¬≠ties in the Douro Val¬≠ley. This diver¬≠si¬≠ty pro¬≠vides grapes of vary¬≠ing aro¬≠mas and fla¬≠vors to help them craft unique wines that get bet¬≠ter and bet¬≠ter with every sip.
