Van Steenberge Baptist Wit 6 pack

Light and Herby

Van Steenberge boasts brewing craftsmanship going back to the late 1700s. Their Baptist line of beers, created for their recently opened Bar Baptist, is an ode to brewery founder Jan Baptist de Bruyne.

TASTING NOTES FROM THE CURATOR

A witbier is a Belgian top-fermented beer style that replaces a large amount of malted barley with wheat. The beer gets its name from the suspended wheat proteins and yeast that give it a hazy, white appearance when served ice cold. Baptist Wit is a refreshingly light beer with a mildly bitter finish. It holds hints of coriander and orange peel, in the tradition of medieval spice-blended beers.

PREPARATION OR PAIRINGS

The mildness of witbier allows it to pair with delicately flavored dishes like fish carpaccio and raw seafood—crab, mussels, oysters, and clams—drizzled with oil. We recommend it with Fine de Claire Oysters or a moules marinières. Try it with lemony risottos or tagliolini with herbs. This beer goes well with fresh cheese and chicken dishes, as well as fruit tarts and Danish viennoiserie.

A SOLID BREWING FOUNDATION

In 1784, Jan Baptist de Bruyne created the Van Steenberge Brewery. In his honor, the modern iteration of the brewery opened Bar Baptist on the premises, serving up their flavorsome line of craft beers all made with modern techniques that respect the brewery’s rich history. They offer tasting menus and seminars or tours for their guests to gain the full Van Steenberge experience.

Store beer bottles upright to prevent yeast rings from appearing. They must be kept in a cool, dark place at approximately 13°C. Don’t allow beer to be caught in bright light for long periods of time to prevent it from attaining a “skunky” taste.
