The Clos de Luz 1945 Massal Carménère is made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, and Malbec grape varieties. These grapes are hand-harvested, and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. It has a gorgeous ruby red color, and an ABV of 13.9%. Its aromas are dense and deep, with notes of blackberries and cedar. It’s bold on the palate, succulent, with notes of red fruit.
The Clos de Luz 1945 Massal Carménère is the perfect companion to a steak dinner, or even a meal of grilled lamb chops. It’s also wonderful with pasta and poultry.
The vineyards of Clos de Luz were planted in 1945 in Almahue Valley, the birthplace of Carménère in Chile, by Luz, Gabriel Edwards’ grandmother. These are regarded as some of the oldest vineyards in Chile. A family winery, it began by selling grapes, but after 20 years, Gabriel decided to start the family wine.
Clos de Luz has 33 hectares of vineyard, all ungrafted and certified organic. Their wines strive to reflect the expression of the Almahue Valley terroir, with grapes being hand harvested, meticulously chosen, and gently extracted. The Massal 1945 wines are elegant, with exquisite balance and complexity.
Store unopened red wines in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 16 to 18°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
