Kurimu Ice Cream
Japanese-inspired flavours and quality
Minimalism and simplicity have been associated with Japanese culture long before it became popular in both fashion and lifestyle. Doing things simply, but with much care, thought, and respect for each component is part of what makes Japanese culture so interesting and beautiful. Husband-and-wife duo, Bryan and Maxine Kong, take great inspiration from this culture—from design, to flavor, to process. This is not the first Japanese-inspired culinary venture from Bryan, who opened Crazy Katsu in Teacher’s Village in Quezon City about a decade ago to great success. Kurīmu is their desserts offering, one that promises quality, authenticity, and deliciousness.
Playfully derived from “aisukurĪmu,” the Japanese word for “ice cream,” it guarantees to showcase a premium line of authentic and complex Japanese flavors, rich and creamy, and centered around simplicity and attention to detail.
And what avid attention they give to the detail! Even before the interesting flavors, their ice cream is rich, creamy, and thick. Smooth and dense, like a custard. They only use the best ingredients, too, like genuine uji matcha for their matcha ice cream. For their black sesame ice cream, they roast the seeds themselves—carefully, until they get to the level of nuttiness and flavor they want. And their shoyu caramel flavor—possibly the best of their line-up if purely for the uniqueness of it. Achieving a perfect balance of flavor when cooking caramel with soy sauce is not easy. It’s a painstaking process, but the pay-off is so worth it.
They also have other offerings that cater to a wide variety of tastes, all with a beauty and complexity rarely found elsewhere. From kinako (roasted soybean flour) chocolate and kinako vanilla, to red bean, and in between, you will definitely enjoy digging into a tub of Kurīmu.
Its tubs are also something to love. Keeping with the minimalistic approach, their packaging is simple and straight to the point. A geometric illustration of ice cream on a cone, their name, and the ice cream flavor, popping out against beautifully muted colors. It’s so unassuming, but so eye-catching at the same time. In a line-up of bright, complicated, busy designs, theirs will stand out. We need nothing but the taste of our ice cream to keep you coming back for more, the tub will tell you. And it would be right. Carefully crafted with love, meticulously made, and freshly churned daily, Kurīmu Ice Cream is available in batches, and shipped to you in insulated containers, ready to eat.
