This Ocean Trout comes from the waters of Macquarie Harbor in Tasmania. Also known as Sand Sea Trout or Silver Sea Trout, this fish looks reminiscent to salmon, with its rosy pink-orange flesh. It has a creamy, succulent texture with delicate flakes, and a mild flavor that goes very well with many flavors.
A very versatile fish, the Fresh Tasmanian Ocean Trout is great poached, pan-fried, steamed, grilled, smoked, etc. Enjoy it as carpaccio, or roast it with vegetables. You can also salt-bake it, or serve it with a glaze over soba noodles.
Tasmania is an Australian island-state, located just south of the mainland. For many of us, this little area of the world entered our consciousness with a particular cartoon. Taz, or the Tazmanian Devil, was an animated cartoon character that appeared in Looney Tunes. He was short-tempered and mischievous, communicating mainly in grunts and growls, and would famously spin like a top.
Despite his iconic presence now—in marketing, and animated shows and movies, he only appeared in five animated shorts before Warner Bros. Cartoons closed down in 1964. He proved to be a popular character though, and has been a constant presence in the Looney Tunes crew since.
