The Franck Massard Humilitat 2016 comes from the Priorat region of Spain, and is a gorgeous dark ruby color with vibrant purple hues. It’s made with a blend of Grenacha (or Grenache) and Cariñena grapes that are organically farmed then matured in used 500-liter barrels for 12 months.
It’s a very well-structured wine, aromatically complex and fresh. This medium-bodied wine has spiced aromas, with notes of ripe wild berries and herbs. On the palate, it gives summery fruity flavors—raspberry, pomegranate, blackberry, and cherry. It’s vibrant and elegant, with a refreshing acidity.
This Priorat pairs well with hard cheeses, like aged Manchego. It also goes very well with roast vegetables, sausages, and hearty legume-based dishes. It’s also great with beef, like a good beef roast, a steak with pepper sauce, or Iberico ribs with mustard sauce. Lamb is also a great choice to pair with Priorat; try with barbecued lamb chops.
Esteemed sommelier, Franck Massard, and an old friend (also a sommelier) acquired a vineyard in the Priorat region of Spain in 2004. This began their journey of acquiring even more knowledge in wine production. They produced 500 bottles with their first harvest, and proud as they were, they discovered that there is still much to learn in terms of skill, patience, and hard work. And they were determined to see it through.
They visited wine regions all across Spain, and met with farmers and explored extraordinary vineyards. Franck was inspired by the terroirs, and made it his mission and passion to create new wines from lesser-known regions, and to nurture nature to highlight what it could provide.
Store unopened red wines in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 16 to 18°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
