The Victoria Pineapple was introduced to Reunion Island, a French department in the Indian Ocean, in 1668. It thrived and grew beautifully there because it flourishes on volcanic soil, with which Reunion Island is rich. This pineapple is harvested year-round, and was awarded “label rouge” in 2005.

Named for Queen Victoria, who loved the taste of this fruit, it has a gorgeous yellow color, both outside and inside. Its flesh is vibrant and soft, with a delicate and sweet flavor. It’s often considered the best pineapple in the world.

PREPARATION AND PAIRINGS

This delicious fruit can most definitely be enjoyed as is. Cut it into chunks or rings, and serve it chilled for a refreshing snack. It’s also great to use in tarts, crumbles, sorbets, or pies. Add it in cocktails, too, like in a Pineapple Daiquiri, or a Pineapple Mojito.
