These delicious chips have a rather intense flavor. Thanks to the ingredients they use, and the freshness of these ingredients, Proper Crisps is able to deliver a snack that is not only electrifying for the taste buds, but one that isn’t so bad for the body, either. The potatoes are harvested from a farmer-friend in the town of Temuka, towards the south end of South Island. They procure the best agria potatoes from this farm, which is an excellent potato for frying. The sea salt is Marlborough sea salt, which is procured from the Marlborough region towards the north end of South Island. This is a special sea salt due to the purity of the salt water used and the method from which the salt is extracted. The result is a pure, delicious salt that is flaky and adheres well to food that it is sprinkled over. On top of this, the dried onions and chives lend their strength to deliver a snack with umph!

Pairings

Chips are not often associated with wine. Many people actually consider munching on these whether as a snack or paired with another beverage - beer, for instance. However, most chips can actually pair very well with wine. For Proper Crisps Onion and Green Chive chips, the intensity of the chives and onions mixed with the saltiness of the Marlborough sea salt and the tastiness of the potatoes will actually pair very well with a Chenin Blanc. In this case, we recommend Beaumont Chenin Blanc. This delicious South African Chenin Blanc has notes of the sea and presents a rather intense fruitiness. It has a medium acidity and refreshes the palate quite well - the perfect partner for a salty, intensely flavored chip.

Perfection in Simplicity

One thing that separates Proper Crisps from other snack producers is their adherence to simplicity of ingredients. If you’re to look at the list of ingredients on each pack, all that you’d see would be the ingredients you could see or taste in the pack. For instance, their green onion and chive pack only has agria potatoes, sunflower oil, Marlborough sea salt, dried onions, and chives. That’s it. No chemicals, no extenders, no artificial flavors or coloring.

Storage Instructions

The best way to keep chips fresh is to store them in a cool, dry place. If you can remove them from their original packaging and place them in an airtight resealable bag, that is the best option. Otherwise, you can purchase bag clips to help seal the chips in the original packaging. If storing in the same bag, remove excess air and make sure there are no rips or tears on the bag that will allow outside air in. Roll tightly to seal. Clip if necessary to keep air from coming in. The longer the chips remain open and exposed, the more that they are subjected to the surrounding air. It is that air that will cause the chips to become stale and will strip them of that fresh crunch and flavor that you want to maintain.
