Brewed the same way since 1894, the Bavik Super Pils by Brouwerij De Brabandere has an ABV of 5.2%. it’s fermentated for eight days, then spends 30 days in cold storage. It uses only aroma hops, and exudes a pale-yellow color that is filtered until clear.
This unpasteurized beer has crisp, smooth, hoppy aromas. Its flavor reflects its nose, with a full-bodied taste and a fresh bitterness. It’s a very refreshing beer.
The Bavik Super Pils goes great with a variety of foods. Enjoy it with cheeses and cold cuts, or with light summer salads. Pair with spicy Asian food, like Ma Po Tofu, Kung Pao chicken, or Mutton Rogan Josh. It will also go great with barbecues, steaks, and the classic mussels and fries.
Founded by beer enthusiast, Adolphe De Brabandere, and his son Jozef in 1894, this brewery had extremely humble beginnings. But Jozef took it upon himself to expand the business, even as he was forced to suspend work during World War I. Unfortunately, he died in 1929, and because his children were then too young, it was his widow that kept the brewery alive. His son Albert eventually took over, and extended sales beyond cafes and private individuals.
After 30 years in charge, he handed the reins to his son, Ignace, who began sports sponsoring, which opened many doors for the brewery. The Brouwerij De Brabandere is now on its fifth generation, and this family business continues to be one of the major independent Belgian breweries.
Store beer bottles upright to prevent yeast rings from appearing. They must be kept in a cool, dark place at approximately 13°C. Don’t allow beer to be caught in bright light for long periods of time to prevent it from attaining a “skunky” taste.
