The intensity of this brilliantly pink wine calls to mind fully ripened raspberries. On opening the bottle, it is clean, fresh, and delicately floral, with prominent wild berry and pink peppercorn notes. It has a strawberry scent to it, typical of rosés made from Garnacha grapes. On the palate, it tends toward the dry but fresh side, with only the mildest of bitter hints and an amazingly long finish on the mouth.
The faint acid and tannins of this wine firmly place it in the fruity category. This is a wine that works marvelously with British cheeses, from Cheddar to Red Leicester , or, for the blue cheese lover, the Long Clawson Potted Blue Stilton DOP. When it comes to tapas, reach for a pan con tomate—the Spanish equivalent of a simple bruschetta. You cannot go wrong with a selection of Spanish jamón and chorizo, the spice and salt of which is well-tempered by the fruity wine.
The story of Viña Zorzal started even before it became a vineyard. In 1989, Antonio Sanz achieved his dream of producing his own wines in his home region of Navarre. In his small winery, he developed techniques to work with the vines, treating them with the utmost care to produce superior wines. In 2007, his sons came together to create their passion project, Viña Zorzal, in honor of their father.
Store your unopened bottle in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 7 to 15°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 5 to 7 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
