Earl Grey Tea is a full-bodied black tea flavored with bergamot oil. Its tea leaves have been oxidized, and that gives it its strong flavor. It’s deliciously calming despite its strength, and gives sweet and floral notes with hints of citrus.
A steaming cup of Pyur PH Earl Grey Tea is perfect for chilly evenings. You can enjoy it on its own, or with a splash of milk. To make a great cup of tea, put 1-2 teaspoons of the tea in a tea infuser, and steep in hot water for about 3-5 minutes. You can steep it for longer should you wish for a stronger flavor.
You can also try your hand at a London Fog. Simply mix in some milk and vanilla syrup into your Earl Grey Tea. The “fog” comes from the frothed milk topping it off. Pair your Pyur PH Earl Grey Tea with chocolate scones, or chocolate chip muffins, or sugar cookies. We also recommend a slice (or two!) of our Portobello Olive Oil Cake.
There is a story on the history of Earl Grey tea that finds itself in the United Kingdom in the 1800s. It is said that as thanks, a Chinese mandarin tea master made a special tea blend for Charles Grey, Prime Minister and Second Earl of Grey (1830-1834). The blend used the water from wells on the Earl of Grey’s estate, and to offset the limey flavor from the water, bergamot was added in by the tea master.
Lady Grey, the Earl’s wife, loved the tea so much that she asked for it all the time. She served it during get-togethers, and it proved so popular that she asked London tea merchants to recreate and sell it.
Store your tea in odor-free, airtight containers. Keep them in a dry, dark place to avoid exposure to heat, excessive light, and humidity. Properly stored, teas will retain full potency and flavor for 18 to 24 months.
