Manuel Lopez and Maria Rojas opened their small confectionary in the province of Toledo in Spain in 1927. Don Manuel grew up making sweets, a family tradition, and so he’s known the trade all his life.
But just as it was reaching success, tragedy struck. Don Manuel passed away in 1939, leaving behind Maria, their two children, and a rising family business. But Maria was not deterred, and continued on, moving the confectionary onwards and upwards to increasing popularity.
“Delaviuda,” from “de la viuda,” or “of the widow,” continues on the family institution of artisan production, using traditional recipes, and keeping the quality as superior as they always have. Its humble beginnings, and its dedication to the craft of confectionary keeps La Confiteria Delaviuda at the top of the game.
