Upon tasting the Suntory Distillery Hibiki Blender’s Choice Whisky, you can detect fresh acidic fruits layering the nose of this whisky. The tart is quite distinguishable and brings to mind apples and rich dark berries. But there’s also some spice and hints of caramel and vanilla, which does a tremendous amount to soften and round this whisky. A little breathing time and the whiskey begins to reveal its subtle dimensions.
The palate is actually quite surprising as it manages to convey the flavor of woody oak which then lightens as the vanilla and caramel come through. The combination of the light fresh fruits of the nose and the deeper, sweeter flavor from the palate is a contrast that both surprises and delights.
The finish sees the return of the wooden tones but with a much more smoked and gentle settle. It’s quite a dry whisky, and you’ll enjoy extending the finish and developing the subtle nuances of flavor with a water chaser.
This fine whisky is best enjoyed as is or over ice.
Suntory Distillery Hibiki Blender’s Choice is a whisky from one of Japans biggest distilleries who has a history of making fine malt and blended whisky. Seen by some as the successor to the famous, but sadly no longer available Hibiki 17 Year Old, the Suntory Distillery Hibiki Blender’s Choice is very much its own whisky. It has its own character and takes you on a different whisky experience.
Although no age statement for the whiskey is released, the whiskey is claimed to have blends which vary from 12 to 30 years old. At 43% ABV (Alcohol by volume), Suntory Distillery Hibiki Blender’s Choice Whisky comes in at the lighter end of the whisky strengths and is quite similar to a Scotch.

Store your bottle upright in a cool, dark place, ideally between 15 and 20°C. Do not refrigerate, as this liquor loses its aroma and flavor with cold. To maintain the moistness of the cork and prevent it from chipping, occasionally tilt your bottle horizontally two to three times, then restore it to the upright position. Unopened bottles can last for an indefinite amount of time, but the closer you get to the bottom third of the bottle, please consume quickly to prevent oxidation and taste alteration.
