Marqués de Cáceres prides itself on its wide selection of high-quality grapes in the Rioja region. Their dry rosé is an excellent example of the care and expertise that goes into each bottle of their wine. This wine is not only DOCa-certified, but scores very highly on Wine Enthusiast, Gourmet Guide, and Wine Spectator.

TASTING NOTES FROM THE CURATOR

Made from a combination of Garnacha tinta and Tempranillo grapes, this dry rosé is a bright, expressive pink in color. Going straight to the bottle from harvest, it is a young wine that does not require a barrel-aging period. It has the scent of red fruit with a touch of aniseed on a delicate floral backdrop of violets and carnations. It is sweet on the palate, with a refreshing, lively structure and a pleasant acidity.

PAIRINGS

This is a paella wine, through and through. Rosés from the Rioja region are typically of medium body and can stand against the strong saffron and pimenton flavors incorporated in many Spanish dishes. This wine is wonderful with a wide variety of hearty seafoods, such as saltwater fish like swordfish, and a variety of shellfish. It also goes well with light barbecued meats like chicken or pork.

A SEAL OF REGIONAL APPROVAL

The Marqués de Cáceres winery is located in Cenicero, in the heart of the Rioja Alta sub-region of La Rioja. This is the only area in the region to have more than one vote in the Royal Economic Society of Rioja Winegrowers, because it produces a large volume of wine and employs many local families. This region was also the refuge of Bordeaux wine merchants, their source of wine when their own vineyards were destroyed by a plant plague in the middle of the 19th century. Cenicero vines are some of the oldest in the region, and therefore, some of the heartiest.
