The Ferraton Pere et Fils Crozes Hermitage La Matiniere 2016 is made with 100% Syrah grape varietal macerated for 20 days, and matured in oak barrels for 12 months.
It has an intense and beautiful cherry red color to it. It’s a suave and full-bodied red wine, that is simultaneously rounded, soft, and juicy. On the nose, you get aromas of small red fruits, black currants, and plum, with earthy notes. And on the palate, cherries, raspberries, cassis, and acai berries.
Hard cheese like Gouda would pair beautifully with the Ferraton Pere et Fils Crozes Hermitage La Matiniere, as would sautéed mushrooms in garlic. Puttanesca pasta is also a good choice, as is duck, seared tuna, and sausage. A winning combination is a glass of this excellent red with our IGP Chilled French Rack of Lamb. Roast it with herbs, and make it co-star to the La Matiniere for a truly special dinner.
The story of this esteemed winery began with Jean Orëns Ferraton, son of a vigneron, and a vigneron himself. 1946 was the year, in the Rhone Valley, a region blanketed by the warmth and light of the sun. It was his passion, perseverance and love for the art of winemaking that is still felt today. He passed on this love and passion to his son, Michel, who innovatively breathed new life to his father’s vineyards. He introduced to the world the first Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph Ferraton. And in 1998, with the entrance of Michel Chapoutier—a Ferraton family friend, it ushered in a new era, one of bio-dynamics, sustainability, and even more innovative and successful perspectives.
Store unopened red wines in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 16 to 18°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
