Giffard’s flagship product, Menthe Pastille, is a pure, clear, and refined white mint liqueur created from Mitcham peppermint. Formerly used as an aid to cure indigestion, founder Emille Giffard started serving it as a refreshment for his customers to cool down amidst the French summer heat. Experience the cooling peppermint breeze of Menthe Pastille as an add-on to your favorite cocktail mix.

From Pharmacy to Bar

Made in the Loire Valley in 1885, Giffard Menthe-Pastille is the leading Mint Pastille in France. First made in the hot summer of 1885 by Emile Giffard, a dispensing chemist in Angers, France. Whilst working late one night a patron from the hotel next door arrived on his doorstep complaining of indigestion. The mixture concocted cured her indigestion and left Emille with an idea. He set about formulating a clear peppermint liqueur using imported peppermint leaves from England, which he called ‘Menthe Pastille’. He began to market his new liqueur, which proved an instant success, leading him to establish his own distillery. Menthe Pastille is still made to the original recipe at a distillery run by Bruno Giffard, Emile’s great grandson.

This Menthe-Pastille has won a number of awards, namely, Master Medal at Liqueur Masters 2014 and Gold Medal at Liqueur Masters 2016 by the Spirits Business Magazine.
