The Benjamin Leroux Volnay Village is a red wine blend from vines of around 40 years old, and scored an 88-90 from Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate. It has a deep color, and an equally deep aroma, with notes of cassis, cherries, and dark chocolate. It has a medium to full body on the plate, supple and velvety, with notes of fruit, powdery tannins, and hints of earthiness.
The Benjamin Leroux Volnay Village is excellent to pair with poultry like duck and goose, especially when roasted. It’s also great with grilled lamb or a chargrilled steak, as well as meat-based pastas and curries.
Benjamin Leroux is a native of Burgundy, and is a winemaking prodigy. He attended Lycée Viticole, a prominent wine school in Beaune, at only 13 years old. By the age of 26, he was general manager and winemaker of Domaine du Comte Armand. He launched his eponymous label in 2007, to wide critical acclaim. He has risen through the ranks of Burgundy producers at a spectacular rate, thanks to his modern winemaking approach that he combines with respect to tradition and his deep knowledge of viticulture. This young vigneron has a bright future ahead of him, one that the winemaking world is eager to see.
Store unopened red wines in a cool, dry, and dark place safe from constant vibration. Keep your bottle horizontal in a wine rack or cellar to retain the moistness of the cork. The ideal temperature for storage is between 16 to 18°C. Once opened, a bottle will be good for 3 to 5 days standing upright in the refrigerator.
